SHIGARAKI
Looking at the history of ancient Japan, Shigaraki was located in the center of the Kinki region, which was influenced by Korean culture and flourished as the center of Japanese culture. It was an ideal place to build Shigaraki Palace as it was located along an ancient main road and had an abundance of soil suitable for pottery.
The clay, combined with kibushi clay, offers excellent plasticity and strength, making it ideal for creating large or thick pieces. When fired, it develops a beautiful fire color in shades of skin tone, pink, or reddish-brown. By applying bidoro glaze or scorch marks to the surface, it produces pottery with a uniquely human warmth and softness, creating expressions that cannot be found in other production areas.
